Hip-Hop mogul, Shawn Carter, also known as Jay Z, is now the owner of the Armand de Brignac champagne brand. The New York wine and spirits company Sovereign Brands said it had sold the luxury brand to the rapper for an undisclosed amount. A huge lump sum, we could imagine.
The champagne, more popularly known in local circles as “Ace of Spades”, is produced in the small French town of Chigny-les-Roses by eight people.
The golden-bottled champagne, which featured in a 2006 Jay Z music video, sells for retail price of $300 and get this, the world’s biggest bottle of ‘Ace of Spades’ is 100lbs, and cost roughly $275,000. It’s equivalent to 40 regular sized bottles.
The purchase is the latest addition to Jay Z’s long list of business ventures outside of his own music, which includes a clothing line, sports agency, restaurants and a recording label. Not to mention he was once part owner of the Brooklyn Nets franchise.
According to Forbes magazine, Jay Z is considered the third richest hip-hop artist in the world with an estimated worth of $520m.
