Former Olympic hero, Michael Phelps was stopped on a speeding violation in Maryland and registered .14% on his Breathalyzer test. The legal limit for intoxication in Maryland is .08%.
Nice try Mike…
In a statement by the Maryland Transportation Authority police said Phelps eyes were bloodshot, and “his speech was mush mouth.” Whatever that means…
Apparently Phelps was doing 84 in a 45. That’s never good. The officer pulled him over once he observed him drifting lanes.
After several sobriety tests the officer placed him under arrest, on Tuesday Michael was charged with driving under the influence. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 19th
This is his second DUI charge in Maryland. The first charge was in 2004 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and he received 18 months probation and a $250 fine.
Fortunately for the Olympian, the conviction in that case was waived, which means Phelps this time faces the same penalties a first-time offender would. If convicted of his recent charges, he’ll face up to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine and the loss of his driver’s license for six months.
Tough one for Phelps.
