The age of biometric authentication has arrived! That means that instead of logging in with a password, your face, eye or fingerprint will instantly let your devices recognize that it’s you. It’s as if this new app, Windows Hello, a new feature of Windows 10, came straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie!
Windows 10 is officially set for release on July 29, and the best part is that it’s a free update to those already using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
The new operating system will be available to almost 200 countries worldwide and Microsoft claims that Windows 10 will be working on a billion devices in two to three years.
That’s a bold statement, Microsoft.
So, let’s look into what’s spurring Microsoft to make that claim. What does Windows 10 have to offer that will make it stand out in the competitive market?
The largest selling point, according to Microsoft, is that Windows 10 will work on every kind of device. It is unprecedented to have one operating system that can work on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, but Windows 10 is expected to break the mold.
Some other notable features of Windows 10 include Cortana, which Microsoft claims is “the world’s first truly personal digital assistant” to help users personalize their recommendations and searches, while also giving reminders on their PCs and smartphones.
There is also the new browser called Microsoft Edge, an updated Microsoft Office Suite and Xbox integration, as well as Windows Continuum, which can help temporarily transform phones or tablets into PCs.
Plus, since Windows 8 had some users complaining about upgrading difficulties and the complicated interface, Windows 10 is utilizing more familiar features, including the older but very popular “Start menu.”
With Apple’s Mac computers dominating the field lately, Windows really has to step up to keep up. However, Windows 10 may be the bold move they need to get ahead. What do you think?
