Former basketball star of Baylor University, Isaiah Austin, recently received traumatic news. He has been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome, which affects the body’s connective tissue. The 20 year old NBA hopeful will no longer be able to pursue his professional basketball aspirations because of this harsh reality he has been faced with. He was planning to enter the NBA draft this Thursday, June 26. However, because of doctor recommendations he will no longer be able to play.
With the support of his coach and his mother, he hopes to push through this hard time. His mother broke to the news him in person after driving through the night. A heartbroken Austin spoke to ESPN about the news saying “They found the gene in my blood sample and they told me that my arteries and my heart are enlarged, and that if I overwork myself or push to hard that my heart could rupture.”
He apologized to his supporters for the ending of his career, but the apology is unnecessary. We are here to support and our prayers go out to him and his family.
