Neil Patrick Harris and partner of 10 years, David Burtka tied the knot this past Saturday in Italy. Harris unveiled the grand announcement via twitter Monday, “Yep, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’.”
The two exchanged vows after being engaged for years with their twins, Harper Scott and Gideon Scott, alongside. It was an intimate ceremony with close family and friends. However, the occasion wouldn’t be complete without a performance from Sir Elton John himself. Director, producer and friend of “How I Met Your Mother,” Pam Fryman, officiated the ceremony as the two wore custom Tom Ford tuxedos.
When gay marriage became legalized in New York in 2011 it helped paved the way for their eternal bond, though they had been engaged for almost five years prior. During that time Harris had tweeted, “we’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages waiting for an available date.”
The union between Mr. Harris and Mr. Burtka has helped shape the gay community in a major way. Society looks at celebrities with an iconic vision and with that, it encourages others to be comfortable with themselves. Not only is this a major life celebration for the lovely couple but also they’ve unknowingly encouraged others in the world that it does in fact, get better.
Congratulations to Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka!
