It’s about time that LaGuardia Airport, the main gateway to one of the United States’ best cities, matches the splendor of the city that it lives in.
Most New Yorkers know that, currently, it really isn’t living up to the ‘New York’ standard.
Governor, Andrew Cuomo, and Vice President, Joe Biden, announced on Monday, July 27, that LaGuardia airport will be getting a $4 billion makeover that will take about four to five years to complete after its approval in 2016.
No more cramped terminals and delayed flights due to runway traffic. Everything in the new airport will be simpler, more spacious, and more modern! As Cuomo stated, “We are transforming LaGuardia into a globally-renowned, 21st century airport that is worthy of the city and state of New York.”
Some specific improvements to look forward to include a completely new Terminal B, better public transportation to and around the airport, more room for planes to take off, a bigger parking garage, and a larger concession space. Also, all four terminals will finally be under one roof!
Plus, security concerns should improve since the screening space will grow as well.
Of the $4 billion bill, Cuomo said that about half of it is private funding, plus, Delta Airlines is reportedly a partner on the new terminal.
What are your thoughts on the plans for the new LaGuardia? Can it go from being one of the worst airports to being one of the country’s best?
