An 18-year-old highschool student was gunned down after an off-duty police officer fired 17 shots at him. The incident took place just miles from where unarmed teen Michael Brown happened to be gunned down by an officer.
This time the teen wasn’t unarmed…
Police say that Vonderrit Myers Jr. opened fire on the unidentified off-duty police officer in Shaw, Missouri, which happens to be less than 10 miles from Ferguson. The officer who remains unidentified, is a six-year police veteran on duty at his second job for a private security company when he saw three males acting suspicious, Sam Dotson, St. Louis Police Chief reported at a press conference.
The officer went to approach the teens and they took off running, as one appeared to be running in a manner that he had a gun on his waist, which was Myers. Myers who also had been wearing an ankle bracelet on his ankle from a previous gun charge opened fire on the officer and shot about three times. Police claim, that’s when the officer returned fire, and shot about 17 bullets in Myers direction. At the time it’s not known how many actually hit him, but that he did die from his injuries.
News of the death quickly spread across social media and sparked more protests in the street, at the scene. Just the latest outcry after the death of Michael Brown.
