Last night saw history being made at the Emmys, with Viola Davis being the first person of color to receive the Best Actress In Drama Series, and Game of Thrones winning 12 awards.
Ricky Gervais never seemed to get so lucky.
Despite being nominated 22 times in his career, Gervais has ‘only’ won twice – for The Office in 2006 and Extras in 2007.
Last night, when appearing on stage to present the award for best lead actor for limited series, Gervais took the opportunity to try and trick the viewers and bloggers in the news.
“Back again, to lose another one. God. I haven’t lost yet, there’s still hope! No, there’s no hope.”
“It doesn’t matter,” he continued. “No one remembers. In a few days time, people see a picture of me up onstage and they’ll go, ‘Oh he probably won an Emmy.’
He borrowed someone’s Emmy award and took the chance to pose holding the statue, faking tears.
Gervais lost his nomination to Richard Jenkins for his role inOlive Kitteridge.
