Cast: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini, Hannibal Buress, Scarlett Estevez, Owen Vaccaro
Director: Sean Anders
Synopsis: “DADDY’S HOME” follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids.
It’s been five years since Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg stared in a film with one another and Sean Anders proves that they should collaborate more often! Anders did a colorful job bringing “The Other Guys” back together for yet another comedic banger.
This film captures the beauty of a blended family despite all the trials that arise when testosterone driven birth father Dusty, played by Mark Wahlberg, and Will Ferrell as Brad the stepfather compete for the love of their children.
Their playful partnership is a true delight to watch making it difficult at times to determine the antagonist because each character, both of which equally have faults, is worth rooting for.
Between the mind games of the dynamic dads, the impressive, powerful voices boomed by Scarlett Estevez and Owen Vaccaro as well as the subplot twists involving supporting characters played by Hannibal Buress, Alessandra Ambrosio and a surprise cameo, you will be pleasantly entertained throughout the movie and left with comedic relief.
It took several stunts through walls, on a professional basketball court, and in the backyard leading to a near fatal accident for them to realize in the end that they shared the same goal.
Recognizing their strengths and accepting their individual weaknesses allowed them to view one another not as threats but as teammates. This epiphany, which debuted on the father daughter dance floor, allowed them to work together and focus on what was most important – a happy family who felt their love.
Overall, “Daddy’s Home” is simply a fun and easy to digest film just in time for the holidays. It succeeds in holding your attention, keeping your laughs roaring, and bringing you on a journey with exciting tricks up it’s sleeves. And I would not be surprised if you were excited to watch it all over again. As an extra treat, the end of the movie teases to what seems to be a potential part two to this ever-growing family. Fingers crossed! Make sure to check out this hilarious movie hitting theaters on Christmas Day December 25th!
