Tina Fey is a funny person. When you have multiple Emmys and Golden Globes for your work in comedy, it’s safe to say you’re funny. Luckily, that’s the case for Fey. Recently, comedian Steve Martin was honored with the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. There was a filmed ceremony, and Fey was one of the performers who honored Martin. Her speech was funny and so very Fey.
During the speech, Fey remarked about the striking resemblance between herself and Martin’s wife, Anne Stringfield. Fey mentioned that Stringfield is a “younger, thinner, smart version of [herself].” The audience laughed, and the camera zoomed in on an embarrassed yet in-good-spirits Stringfield. We hope there’s no bad blood after the joke.
Fey is certainly right about Stringfield’s intelligence. She’s a writer, and she used to be an editor for The New Yorker. You can’t really be anything but smart to do those things.
Fey’s tribute to Martin (and the rest of the ceremony) will air on Saturday at 10 PM (Eastern Time) on TBS.
