It is reported that minorities who work in retail earn less than their white colleagues.
The study was released by the NAACP and the public policy group, Demos, who found that retailers pay black and Latino full-time salespeople about 75 percent of what they pay white workers in the same positions.
On average, black salespeople are paid $11.54 an hour, while white salespeople average $15.38 an hour.
It is also reported that minority retail workers are given less opportunities for promotions and advancement. And although black workers make up 11 percent of the national retail workforce, black employees hold only 6 percent of supervisory positions.
The designers of the study believe that a raise in the federal minimum wage could possibly reduce this racial wage gap.
